Preview: Packaging Innovations

The UK’s premier packaging event will shine a spotlight on latest industry innovations and future solutions to the ongoing supply chain crisis

In February 2023, Packaging Innovations returns to the Birmingham NEC. At a time of great uncertainty across the food and beverage sectors, it will not come a moment too soon.
Held over two days on February 15-16, the show combines three events – Packaging Innovations & Empack, Featuring Contract Pack & Fulfilment – into one packed showcase that covers every step of the packaging journey, from design to fulfilment. Attendees can expect to be inspired by the packaging world’s leading names on the show floor, offering solutions and services to protect and preserve products while streamlining stretched supply chains.
That inspiration is needed now more than it ever has been to overcome the unprecedented challenges faced by the food and beverage sectors. Supply chain issues and increasing costs mean profit margins are squeezed and product preservation is more important than ever to eliminate waste. A hectic omnichannel market is proving to be a blessing and a curse – while it gives companies the tools to meet spiralling demand, it also presents complex logistics challenges as information weaves in and out of cyberspace and the physical world. Sustainability is also a pressing challenge, with businesses under pressure to reduce their plastic use, carbon emissions, and food waste.

Juggling these many – often conflicting – market demands is simply impossible unless businesses evolve somehow. And none of this takes into account specific issues that individual businesses might face. For example, a food brand may need to upgrade its packing line, but be unable to fit the required machine into the factory floor, or find an experienced operator to run it. The answer requires innovation.
The solutions to today’s problems can only be found in the future. That future will be in the spotlight on Packaging Innovations’ show floor this February, enabling food and beverage brands to match themselves to the solutions that work for them.

Divided into four areas, the show features a dedicated Food Service Zone, where attendees can network with some of the biggest names in the food, beverage, and foodservice packaging world. Fibre-based consumer packaging specialist Graphic Packaging International, biodegradable foodservice packaging expert Intertan, compostable film pioneer Futamura, and many more will all be found in this zone.

The show will also play host to a programme of talks and networking events, providing insights from – and perhaps even partnerships with – some of the world’s leading names in food and drink packaging. This opens the door for sustainability improvements, supply chain reinforcement, logistics solutions, new technologies, and more.

The other zones on the show floor include the Empack Zone, which will bring brands face-to-face with what could be their next labour- and space-saving machinery solution, and the Contract Pack & Fulfilment Zone, which includes cutting-edge value-adding services to help businesses optimise their supply chains.

Whether it’s an idea that bears fruit later in the year, a complete overhaul of a processing and packing operation, or something in between, everyone leaves Packaging Innovations with something.
